Social Stationery & About Us

Q. When should I order my invitations?

A. At least 4 months before the wedding so that there is enough time to write,
address and mail your cards.

Q. How many invitations should I order?

A. One invitation per single person, couple or family. Your parents and
bridal party may want to keep one as a keepsake, so don't forget to ask.

Q. What if I don't order enough - can I get more printed?

A. Yes you can, although the cost is usually inhibitive. It's a good idea to
order 10-20 more when you initially order your invitations, which will usually
cost around $30-$70 depending on your design. This allows for errors and also
gives you a few more invitations if someone you invited cannot attend and you'd
like to invite someone else! Don't leave it too late after you've initially sent
your cards though, people don't generally like to be considered an afterthought.

Q. Should I put a dress code on my invitations?

A. Most wedding invitations have a dress code, although that wasn't always the case!
Traditionally, etiquette meant that a lounge/morning suit for morning or afternoon
weddings and black tie for any weddings after 6.00pm. These days, most invitations
have a dress code, so that no misunderstandings occur and people can dress
appropriately for the occasion - especially if you are holding the reception in
your garden!

Q. How do I let people know about BYO alcohol?

A. The information can be printed on the bottom of the invitation or on the
bottom of the RSVP card. It could read as follows:

'Alcoholic beverages may be purchased from the bar. Beer, wine and soft drinks
will be provided'

Q. What is the best way to advise our guests that we prefer not to have children
at the wedding or reception?

A. Most people understand that children can be disruptive when they become bored.
You could put a line at the bottom of the invitation like:

'We regret that this invitation does not extend to children' or
'We respectfully ask that no children attend the church service or reception'

Q. What about a 'save the date' card?

A. If you are getting married on a long weekend, or a date which requires advance
bookings, you can send your guests a 'save the date' card which can be placed
in their calendar, advising that your function will take place and they don't
double-book.

A note or printed card can include details like:

'Mark this Date' or 'Save the Date'
Melissa & Mark are getting married!

Q. My fiance and I have lived together for quite some time and our home
is pretty much complete. How do we politely request a cash gift?

A. The Wishing Well poem is the most popular way and very nicely done!
There are a couple of versions, but this one can be adapted to suit most
occasions and has a sense of humour:

Our home is quite complete now, we've been together a while,
so please consider our request, we send it with a smile.

A delicate request it is, and we hope you understand,
that however much you'd like to give, will be a helping hand.

The tradition of the Wishing Well is one that's known by all,
go to the well, toss in a coin and as the coin does fall.

Make a wish upon that coin, be careful as you do,
'cause as the well's tradition goes, your wishes will come true.

So on this special day of ours, the day that we are wed,
don't hunt around for special gifts, you'll surely lose your head!

As you present your envelope, any combination inside,
remember - love makes the world go round, money makes it a nicer ride!

Now we are to be Mr and Mrs, we don't need a list of dishes,
we have two kettles, two toasters, a microwave, it's not all beer and skittles!

There is a house, we need to save, a home does not come cheap,
our 'Wishing Well' is filled with love from all of you, and is ours to keep.

Our home will be a happy place, because of all our guests,
you are most welcome there at any time, but do not make a mess!

We thank you for your precious gift, given from the heart,
remember - your willingness to participate, gave us a huge head start!

With much love and thanks!
