. What to expect from your Foot Massage To begin with make sure the feet are clean, then a foot soak with epsom salts is a wonderful way to de-stress before a foot massage. Make sure that your feet are completely dry (including in between toes) before you sit back for your footmassage. Then, simply recline against a big pillow on the sofa to fully relax the entire body. Foot massage feels really great if the whole body is at ease. The masseuse will use an essential massage oil or lotion, and will protect clothing and furniture with a towel or two. These are some of the steps that we will go through: .
| Stroking. Stimulates circulation and warms the foot. The masseuse will hold your foot in her hand, and on the top of the foot will begin a long, slow, firm, stroking motion with her thumbs, starting at the tips of the toes and sliding back away from you, all the way up to the ankle; then she will retrace her steps back to the toes with a lighter stroke. This will be repeated three to five times... | |
.
| Ankle Rotations. Loosens joints and relaxes feet. Your masseuse will cup one hand under the heel, behind the ankle, to brace the foot and leg. She will grasp the ball of the foot with the other hand and turn the foot slowly at the ankle for three to five times in each direction. With repeated foot massages, any stiffness will begin to recede. This is particularly good for those of you suffering from arthritis. | |
.
| Toe Pulls and Squeezes. Toes, like fingers, are quite sensitive to the touch so this massage can be very calming. Your masseuse will grasp the foot beneath the arch, and with her other hand, beginning with the big toe, she will hold the toe with her thumb on top and index finger beneath. Starting at the base of the toe, she will then slowly and firmly pull the toe, sliding her fingers to the top and back to the base. This will be repeated while gently squeezing and rolling the toe between the thumb and index finger, working up to the tip and back to the base. This technique will be repeated on the remaining foot. | |
.
| Toe Slides. The masseuse will grasp your foot behind the ankle, cupping it under the heel. With the index finger of her other hand, she will insert her finger between the toes, back and forth for three to five times. . Foot massage is one of the most unbelievably relaxing treats that you can give yourself or others. The ultimate study of foot massage is reflexology. Foot reflexology is "pressure therapy" and involves applying focused pressure to certain known reflex points located in the foot to cure or prevent disease. Foot reflexology is based on the premise that our nerve zones or reflex points go from the bottom of our feet to the top of our head, encompassing all vital organs on the way. A trained reflexologist can put pressure on different meridiens or energy lines on the sole and side of the feet to determine the cause of illness. | |
.
| Arch Press. Releases tension in the inner and outer longitudinal arches. Your masseuse will hold the foot as done Step 4. Using the heel of her other hand, she will push hard as she slides along the arch from the ball of the foot toward the heel and back again. This action will be repeated about five times. This part of the foot can stand a little extra exertion on the part of the masseuse, but not too much pressure. We suggest that soft music or a meditation cd should be played in the background to get you in the mood for a foot massage. There are various creams and oils that can be used for a foot massage. However, we will be using essential massage oils to achieve an ultimately relaxing foot massage. | |
The stroking in step 1 will be repeated. This is a fantastic feeling and a great end to a foot massage.
